What a difference 11 years makes.......
It's been a while since I've sat down and actually written some content. Sometimes I feel like in today's world we rely too much on an image to tell a story. Don't get me wrong I love Instagram & the way it gives you accessibility to so many different worlds all in one place, but I think we've forgotten what a "blog" is all about, and the importance of the authenticity you get from the written word.
At the age of 16 I was captivated by the likes of Fashion Snag, Anna Dello Russo, Fashion Toast, Birkin Watcher, Shoe Razzi & The Purse Blog - all OG's of blogging in my book. They inspired me to create my own space to express my creativity & thoughts and I really enjoyed posting pictures, quotes, things that inspired me, things that maybe I was a little unsure of and some honest takes on the changing world around me. From this, "Little Black Corvette" - my first blog, was born.
As the years rolled by I felt like I was constantly evolving, whether it be in my daily outfit choices, or social engagements, friends & acquaintances, the industries in which I worked - the list goes on and on. Blogging gave me a space where I could share all these experiences as well as draw inspiration from the other bloggers I had admired for so long.
So here I was, 6 years later at the age of 22 thinking I may have found what I was truly passionate about - Fashion & Styling. I decided to retire Little Black Corvette and start again - this time with a blog solely focused on fashion & style. I immersed myself in the world of Polyvore (RIP my good friend) and built up an extensive catalogue of pieces to put together an outfit for any occasion. "Style by Sammy" was born & I posted every outfit I had created on there, as well as images of my friends I had styled, tips & tricks, product reviews, runway shows & things that I just loved. I also shared a lot of this content via Instagram, which didn't really have the impact it does now, but it was something new and exciting to experience and I enjoyed learning to navigate the platform.
At 24 I decided it was time to re-brand yet again & "Style by Sammy" became "Cerra Style" - a name that I feel truly reflects every aspect of my life. I maintained the original content on the blog, but really turned up the focus on Instagram as the platform was exploding - fast, & I had to keep up. I felt like the written word was slowly getting left behind & the focus on images was super strong. I rolled with it & continued to showcase my passion through a colourful & creative Instagram grid & I loved every moment. There is something to be said about the power of an image, no matter how simple the content may be.
11 years later I find myself thinking about 16 year old Sammy & the things that inspired her. Some things seem totally irrelevant, and others shine through true as the day I first discovered them. One thing is for sure though, I still believe in the power of the written word and I'm making a commitment to contribute to more reader worthy content, as well as the beautiful images we all know we need.
So in summary I'm back, without a degree in English or Literature so you'll have to forgive the odd grammatical error or poor paragraph layout, but I can promise it will be the same Sammy giving you what you want, and what you didn't even know you'd need.
